May Chapter Meeting
May 18, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
At this time of year, birds are singing their signature songs to advertise their presence, attract a mate and defend nesting territories. Identifying bird species by what we hear in addition to by what we see will be the topic of our meeting on Wednesday, May 18 at 6:30 PM. We will meet at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis St. Socializing and setup will take place beginning at 6:00 PM. Audubon Rockies Community Naturalist, Keith Bruno, will lead us in learning the skills of birding by ear. His lesson will focus on the songs of birds commonly encountered in our Forest Bird Monitoring citizen science project. The fourth season of this study, which documents bird species and numbers in selected areas of the National Forest, will begin at the end of this month. Recognizing birds by what we hear is a valuable skill set in this study and in our bird survey in the HD mountains, and one that improves among our volunteers every year.
Audubon meetings and activities are open to the public and we welcome your participation. We are seeking volunteers for our bird monitoring projects. For more information and to add your name to the volunteer list, email us at weminuche.audubon@gmail.com. In appreciation for our meeting place, we welcome donations of non-perishable food to the Methodist Church food bank.
Those unable to join in person may use the following link to join us on Zoom.
