Christmas Bird Count

December 18, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Weminuche Audubon Society welcomes all local residents, visitors, and bird enthusiasts to join the longest running citizen science survey in the world, the Christmas Bird Count.

The Christmas Bird Count is a long-standing program of the National Audubon Society, with over 100 years of community science involvement. Each year, thousands of volunteers across the Western Hemisphere come together to participate in this early-winter bird census. The CBC provides critical data on bird population trends, with viewers logging what they see and hear within a 15-mile diameter count circle.

We hope you’ll join in on the effort to log birds and contribute to community science. For more information about the CBC visit https://www.audubon.org/conservation/join-christmas-bird-count

The Pagosa Springs count circle is centered at the transfer station on Trujillo Rd and covers areas in town, south to Burns Canyon, Timber Ridge, Alpha, Pagosa Lakes, Holiday Acres, Loma Linda, Lower Blanco Basin, Mill Creek Rd, Log Park, Cemetery Rd, Fourmile Rd, Snowball Rd, west to Elk Park and areas in between.

You may participate by joining a team within one of the eight count circles that divide this area.  If you live within the count area, you may join by counting birds at your feeders at home.

For more information or to sign up for a team, email Keith Bruno at kbruno@audubon.org
